installed but does not work (WIN7 x64)

Postby Tsardoz » Fri Jan 22, 2010 9:35 pm

I am new to midi and EWI4000s.
System:
windows 7, 64 bit
Midisport 2x2 anniversary

I installed the 64 bit drivers from M-Audio. I installed the Vyzex software for EWI4000s from here (Vyzex editor)

http://www.akaipro.com/contentmgr/showd ... hp/id/1896

When I run the software, I get the error message:

Autosense cannot find the EWI4000s

Then it comes up with a grey screen Receiving: Akai Professional EWI4000S preset edit buffer and hangs.
Sometimes it manages to download the AKAI midi table but not often. When it does it gives the error:

Sysx data is missing bytes

I then cancel all and it comes up with some instrument screen.
When I blow in the EWI the keyboard at the top shows notes being received (as does MIDI monitor). No sound comes out.

This is the second USB midi box I have used this with. The first one was an unbranded one which did not need drivers.

What is the problem?
I specifically bought the Midisport 2x2 because it was named as being compatible in this thread

Update to this is that I can play the EWI with several other programs that recognise MIDI input.
In fact the only software I have tried with the EWI that does not work 100% is the software that came with the EWI as being compatible with it!

Hi Tzardoz,

Unfortunately you are on the edge of current technology with Windows 7 (64 bit) and custom manufacturer supplied 64-bit drivers: Your report is the first one describing issues with this combination.

This said, it is possible your problem is not the USB MIDI interface at all. It could be that your EWI4000s has a number of corrupted presets on board.

Check out this thread: http://www.vyzor.com/support/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=577&start=0

Please follow the steps listed in the thread and let us know if this resolves your problem or not.

Cheers,

Tony

Thanks for your help Tony.
I must have been doing some dumb, newby thing because it all seems to be working OK now.
The one exception is auto-sense does not work but that is trivial.

If you are using the first port on the MIDIsport and there are no other MIDI devices connected to your computer then the AutoSense routine is not necessary anyway - You can disable it from the program's preferences dialog if you like. The relevant instructions can be found in the included 'Preferences Guide' PDF available from the program's 'Manuals' menu.

Hi. I am having a similar problem. Kind of. And again I am new to all this so it could be some newby thing I am doing! When I got my EWI4000s about 6 months ago I had Vista and connected the EWI to my computer with a keyboard USB Midi connection. It all connected ok and all the factory sounds & eveything worked fine. I have since upgraded my laptop to Windows 7. Today I bought a soundbank from Patchman and it all seems up upload fine to Vyzex but I can't get my laptop to connect to the EWI. It comes up with the same messages as Tsardoz:
Autosense cannot find the EWI4000s
Then it comes up with a grey screen Receiving: Akai Professional EWI4000S preset edit buffer and hangs.
Sometimes it manages to download the AKAI midi table but not often. When it does it gives the error:
Sysx data is missing bytes
I then cancel all and it comes up with some instrument screen.
I just can't get it to connect to the EWI to put the new sounds in. Any suggestions?

Check to see the issue is not bad presets on your EWI:

What MIDI interface are you using, by the way? We can only help if we know what your exact setup is.

Thanks.

Thanks Tony. I looked on the forums again and I found another post from someone else that helped. Basically it was the cheap Midi USB adapter I was using. I thought maybe it was Winows 7 because that was the only change since I originally set up the EWI and it worked fine then. I have invested in an Cakewalk UM-1G and it worked perfectly first time. Thanks.

All the Cakewalk UM interfaces are Edirol UM interfaces under the hood, and as most folks know, Edirol = Roland. These interfaces are excellent value and top quality besides. They also run multi-client when set to the Advanced driver mode, which means you can use the inteface in multiple open programs at the same time.

In short, Cakewalk UM interfaces are highly recommended for use with Vyzex and Vyzor editors.

On the other hand $4 bargain USB MIDI cables bought mail-order from China are not recommended - We should know since Psicraft actually ordered a selection of these on eBay for testing to see if any of them could handle the messaging workload between the editor and instrument and not one was up to the task without us first slowing down the software's data rate to a crawl.
